    You shouldnt have to buy a new one...even if you are just out of warranty Apple may replace it if you are lucky... They have some tests and discharge-recharge procedures you can run to possibly fix it or at least confirm if it is truly defective.

    And get Applecare extended warranty..it's worth it.. I've had 2 motherboards, disk drive, a DVD drive, 2 batteries, and those little rubber feet., and half the outer shell, and the infrared port window replaced all for free over the last 3 years... all on this one Powerbook..... (of course it hasnt been very reliabe has it??)
