Definately do the "Circle Line" boat trip (goes right round manhattan - great for checking out all the amazing architecture)
Also sit outside Sidewalk Cafe for an afternoon with a beer (on ave A at around 5th or 6th i think) and soak up the vibe of the East Village.
Other than that - just walk around downtown and you won't be stuck for things to see / do.
Pick up village voice for exhibitions / gigs etc.
