It's really easy to change the card out on a laptop. It's not as straightforward as an AGP card in a tower, but it's pretty simple nonetheless. I am pretty sure you have to remove the keyboard on the 8100, which means unscrewing the case. Dell's site has pdfs of all the maintenance and upgrade procedures for their laptops, you just need to dig around until you find them.
