i'm with BlueOne on the cookie monster imitation vocals. People who do that do amazing things and i can't fathom how they consistently get their voice to do that, but i don't like listening to it for more than 30 sec.
As far as metal pre and post 89, it seems like it's a matter of hunger on the part of the band. Up until Justice, Metallica were all fucked up on drugs, still wanting to make music that people were going to listen to and go "Fuck Yeah!". But then they didn't HAVE to do that anymore and they made music for themselves (and are continuing to do so, it seems). There's nothing wrong with this, but just because they like it doesn't mean all of the fans will.
