I guess for me, since I'm like creaky old (40 in 16 days or so) the death metal vocals justdon't work...and the funny thing is I went to high school and still am great friends with one of the original NY death metal bands (Immolation - who are still out there and still kick major fucking ass) and it was like, well death metal vocals were like what my buds in high school did while the big bands had dickinson and hetfield and halford and dio, etc...it was cool but it was like amatuer hour to me- at the time. I mean even then (83,84...) only a handful of bands were close to that death metal growl thing...what Celtic Frost? I mean Venom Black Metal was the evilist album at the time and that wasmore like Motorhead with dumbass satan lyrics...and VoiVod were doing some sick shit...but still it was waaaaay underground. I mean now EVERY band does death metal vocals. But to me it still sounds like - well, you can't song so you do this thing anyway - which is STILL very rock and roll in my book and cool, but..well..I'm ranting with no end in sight...
