I agree with you on your first point doctor. I used to try and sell clients all the time on new logos, but they wanted nothing to do with it. Most of the time, it was the client who designed the logo, and well, even if it is a crap logo, it's better not to insult the client.
So just take the money and run. Not every project you do is going to end up in your portfolio, so just suck it up and deal.
