Uggh. The fundamental thing that you’re not getting here is that there is nothing in your book that isn’t contrived, done before, or cutting edge. Along with that, add to the fact that its all cliché-based design, and not cohesive at all, and you have the misfortune of not being able to land a job equal to your ego.
A hard lesson for a lot of junior designers, and people just getting started is that they DON”T know everything, and if it was THAT EASY to get a big job, everyone would have one. It is hard. It’s damn hard. Anyone can be a Photoshop jockey and rip off the DR, the Attik, WWFT or a litany of other designers, put that stuff in their book and call it their own. Write some copy, take some actual compelling photography, put that together in a project, have it actually output and then see how hard it is. It’s not easy.
You will, as many other people here have learned the hard way, is the people that hold the cash don’t want to invest in someone who has some skill, but an ego that outweighs anything they may have in the way of talent. Keep working. Keep learning, and never think that you are that good at anytime in your life, because you aren’t, and there will always be someone better than you. You’re only as good as your next project.
