    It is sad, of course, but it's also encouraging, if you think about it. Base sentiment such as this is far less the rule than the exception these days. Things have improved more than I can adequately describe since I was a kid. I don't mean to imply tht we become complacent – eternal vigilance is the duty of all fair-minded people – but it's important to recognize how much progress we've made as a nation and a people toward goodness, equality, and harmony. I personally fear that identity politics and multiculturalism will negate, or at least dilute this progress. Unity and pluralism are far better goals in my opinion.
