I was thinking about a similar thing with regards to life. Every generation says that the world is getting worse, and people ar getting worse, and things arent as nice, safe, neighbourly as they were in t' good olde days.

When you think about the stages of life though we go from a totally cossetted infancy to a structured educational phase and then a phase where we are cast into the world but are maybe ignorant of some of the bigger socio politcial issues for a while... then we start to realise that the world is a bit of a cut throat place... so the entire human experience could be described as being a journey into less safe territory from the first person persepctive. As we get older, we get more concerned about current affairs, less able to understand new emerging youthful ideas and so more alienated and vulnerable (feeling) so everybody says "its not like it was in the old days" becuase its the mantra that we hear, and feel and empathise will from a personal point of view.

I too have no real idea what I'm on about. I should be in bed. I'm not though, I'm in the dining room.

    • yes, I was thinking about the generation thing too. It's always "getting worse", apparently.Jaline
