I too am of the ULC cloth. I will weigh in as appropriate and as availability permits.
In response to your question, schmutzi, the middle path in this sense seems best. A life lived in blissful ignorance will end in a feeling of emptiness, unfulfillment, and wrist cramps. However, maintaining a strict control on your behavior and thoughts will only lead to frustration and, again, wrist cramps.
Embrace each as every circumstance dictates and be sure not to become a slave to either. Therein lies happiness.
