In my job I have to support back level browsers because some of our big clients (US Govt for example) have strict rules about upgrading and it takes them forever to get up to speed from a year ago. So instead of losing them as a client we acquiesce and do our best to accommodate them. Consider though that good usability is not driven by technology, the concepts remain the same.
