"Exactly... people are still using IE 6... whay not inform everyone a FREE download is the missing link to a better overall internet user experience ... whether its IE 7, FIREFOX, SAFARI, whtever.... just the LATEST...."

Well, for one thing (as someone else pointed out) on my test PC at work I can not add or upgrade software - which is common and more people surf at work than they do at home.
So if you force an upgrade or install you are writing off, um... , let's say 60% of your potential visitors.
Think of it this way - you have a store with a parking garage and due to a design flaw there is a big 10" step instead of a ramp and the only vehicles that can make it into the garage are big ass trucks. Everyone with a car has to either buy a big ass truck or go shop somewhere else.
What do you think they are going to do?
- this is assuming you are designing for the "average" web user and not a niche audienceflashbender
- depends on if there is an offer for a free big ass truck next to the garage.simple_space
- Exactly... what if there was an offer for a big ass truck... Why not inform the user of something better. If its a restaurant a movie theatre a nice view a web browser
