Perhaps this real life example will help you come to a conclusion regarding the conundrum you have presented. It was the third Friday of last August and it was decision making time for my AUG calls. I was holding on to 100 call contracts of one unnamed stock and was up about 23%. I also owned some shares of said XYZ stock. Now, I could've exercised those AUG options and sold the shares to market for a nice little premium. But I didn't. I held out for a few more hours and sold off the contracts for an even larger profit.

The moral is: don't get too caught up on quantity. Quality will prove to be much more valuable because you'll make more money that way.

    I hope I've been helpful.
