just got back form a meeting in our front driveway with our neighbor and representatives of the city water department and park commission, who are in the process of designing and bidding on a monstrous project to construct new drainage from the street above our house, down our driveway, through an old stone wall and into the park. A series of natural drainage terraces will be constructed of giant boulders down through the park to the creek below. The huge native trees threatened by erosion will be saved and non-native trees will be cleared. The project will take about a year and will cost well over a million dollars. I couldn't have been more impressed or heartened by the seriousness, intelligence and sincerity of these people, so at odds with the common conception of Philadelphia city employees.
