I took an "Aesthetic of Art" class in my undergraduate years. Very first class the teacher put an Orange, a Cambell's Soup can and a hammer on his desk and posed the question "Which one is art?"
45 minutes of listening to 18 year old wannabes dressind in black and doc martens (hey, it was the late 80's..) opine "Well the orange is because it's perfect nature".."no, no the hammer because it's designed to create other things..it is creation that leads to creation..." ..."no, the soup can..it creates emotion, hunger in the observer.."
made me get up, walk directly to the registrar and changed my major from philosophy to political science. At least in politics SOMEONE has a gun or an army to just settle things at some point...
