The problem with these statistics is that they don't account for the context of each incident. For instance, whether those guns were obtained legally or not. Also, if they were illegal would those responsible be deterred from buying handguns. I think the answer is likely no, probably the best evidence of a similar trend is with the 'war on drugs'. The two major solutions to this are simple: outlaw guns and see if it works, or crack down harder on illegal activity and maybe put more sensible regulations on gun purchases (e.g. requiring a license, deeper background checks, purchase records including copy of photo id, etc).

    • most likely legally obtained, I doubt there is track of the illegal obtained gunsMeeklo
    • Those regulations already exist and don't work.Mimio
    • Those regulations actually don't exist. You can also be a convicted criminal and buy a gun.ismith
    • The background checks are very light and quick, they don't take your photo, and the only license you need to buy a gun is a driver's license.ismith
    • is a driver's license.ismith

    • But you only need a driver's license, there is no 'gun license'. And there are background checks, but believe me they don't look at them very carefully.ismith
