first stock market in amsterdam. Dutch East India company makes a fucking packet out east. Brits reckon it looks a winner. Brits actually depose their king, bring in a dutch guy and take the whole concept over, beef it up with bigger ships and more manpower and take over the known world, exporting their system of finance and banking to the 'west' as we now know it.
that's the most significant anyway.
