Been reading up about the launch of the Ricoh GX200
It seems that Ricoh have stupidly went down the same Noise Reduction route for jpegs as they did when they introduced the GRDII after the GRD. Lots of photographers who swore by their GRD refused to get the new version as ricoh used a NR that seemed to smear the jpeg and didnt use the same 'grain' effect that the original GRD used for NR.
The GX100 doesnt have quite the same 'grain' effect as the GRD but it is evident (esp when shooting high iso b&w). But the GX100 definitely doesnt use the same smearing as the GRDII.
It seems that the GX200 DOES use the same kind of NR as the GRDII's.
This is evident on the image examples for JPEGS that Ricoh shows on their site.
NOTE : .... if you are buying this camera to just shoot RAW then this smearing doesnt apply - its jpegs only.
I was quite gutted to read this about the new GX200 :(
Maybe i'll wait and see what peoples images are like when they start getting sold and the results posted on the likes of flickr.
