since the original post i have found it useful for adding fill color to other people's problematic artwork.. i don't think anyone in the fashion industry knows how to do a tech line drawing with joined paths.
that's pretty much the only use i've found.
i guess if you sketched very lose with a tablet in AI without any concern for closing paths then it may be good for cleaning up your art.
