    Antonelli makes an interesting point. Even if humans as a species live long enough, eventually, something will happen to this planet in terms of another global ice age or possible a volcanic eruption kicking up enough particulate matter to cause atmospheric change. Unless we learn to terraform a planet's environment, it won't make much difference what we do in the short-term.

    Think about it in these terms. When the dinosaurs became extinct, a huge percentage of all living things on this planet died off. But the planet reach a state of equilibrium. So, even if people do create an environment that is inhospitable to most forms of life, it's just temporary and maybe for the better since as a species, humans consume far too much for this planet to sustain us.
