I believe that the thing with milk is that as people grow their bodies change and develop. We all need milk when we are younger but in western countries (europe & america for instance) we have a much higher tolerance for milk because our bodies have learned to digest it for using it so much, in breakfasts, coffee/tea, cheese etc. However in asia the use of milk is much lower after the first few years of a childs birth, thus their tolerance is much lower as they consume less of it.

What is actually true is that the majority of people are basically lactose intolerant while the minority can keep drinking milk and eating dairy products later in life and are lactose tolerant. Learned this while working on an annual report for a foods group.

Either way, its yummy and what other food group can get better the mouldier it gets? (don't try at home though. leave it to the professionals.)

    • Actually, people drink it a lot in places like India.Jaline
    • but perhaps not other Asian countries.Jaline
    • That prob. has to do with milk being a significant part of Hinduism, and India being one of the largest milk producers.Jaline
    • Yeah India uses a lot of milk, cream and butter, especially in food prep, like the breads and meat marinades and curries.ian
    • ... so perhaps not a great example! But more so in eastern asia like China etc.ian
    • yeah, I figured it was somewhere like China.Jaline
    • yes, everyone is to an extent intolerant, as they are of a myriad of thing found in all kinds of diets.kelpie
    • but lactase is built up through forming a tolerance anyway, and lost through not drinking dairy, so I don't get the fuss reallykelpie
