    I happened to be reading up on Betelgeuse recently and was impressed to learn that we've actually resolved an image of the actual disc of the star - not just a point of light, but an actual substantial image..

    Also, I was playing with Celestia a while back and went to the Betelgeuse system, at about the distance Earth would be from our sun - and it's amazing - the star wholly fills the sky from horizon to horizon. Kind of mind boggling to think that, in the grand scheme of things, it's not even a particularly huge star.
