If it feels right then do it, forget those scared little background thoughts!
I did it 2 years ago and was the best (career) move I ever made.
When I quit my job I had had enough of design and computers and offices altogether, I planned to get outdoors and do something. I told my boss I was quitting because non of this internet stuff really exists anyway. His face, oh his face!
