Remember PS was developed to work bitmaps for print and it's structure and work-flow (menu/options, features, etc) is set to optimize that kind of job;
FW was developed specifically for the Internet. It's obviously less powerful when it comes to bitmap treatment, but it integrates seemlessly with other tools within the family and also exports vectors fairly well to Freehand, which is also simpler than Illustrator. (Freehand smaller grids are not very reliable)
