I'm a knucklehead. I got to thinking about this while driving today and if you use 1/2" minimum thickness on your sheet goods and have tight lap joints that bookcase will be rock solid as you have it designed, Dancer. No need for additional hardware, solid back, case, or anything like that. Forgive my clouded early morning thinking.
It will still be a task getting those joints cut perfectly, but if you take your time during layout and machining you'll be fine.
