I second the anti-VW sentiments. I was a diehard VW owner (Ive owned 5 -- the last three I bought new). My last Jetta (a 2000 model) after 3 years was in the shop continuously. I thought it was a lemon but when I searched online I found that the problems were common. It still looks like brand new and only has 53k miles on it. Across three years I spent 11k on repairs while thinking this was the last thing it needed.

I've heard that the MrkVs are much better designed. I'd lease or buy another if the plan was to keep it for only three years, beyond that I don't trust them.

    • Wow, What problems other than the common electrical ones?Mimio
    • If it was only 3 years old why were you paying for repairs. With only 53k surely it was still under warranty.2cents
    • I still don't understand why you're paying for repairs on a 3 year old car with 53K on it. Doesn't add up.2cents
    • I wasnt very articulate when I wrote that (I shouldnt be distracted while working on deadlines).

    • The repairs happened after three years. The warranty was up. Coils, water pump files, components in sunroof, windshield wiper motors, electrical in door, locking system, catalytic converter, oxygen sensor,Josev
    • I meant water pump failed. window electrical, windshield wiper mechanicals, door locking system, moreJosev
    • My best friend bought her beetle the same year as my Jetta and had a similar experience.Josev
