Hi, I have to say that I have read so many of these types of sites in the last 24 hours I just had to add my own very real input.
I have been very fortunate to acquire 2 tickets to the Champions League Final, I have applied for the fourth year running along with several friends and this is the first time we have had any success.
Unfortunately my team have not made it this year, but I am proud to say that I was there in Istanbul & Athens and have watched them in both success and defeat and would not have missed either for the world.
I know everyone is talking about potential problems with visa’s and travel arrangements but I have to say that my friends and I had exactly the same time to organise our trips and yes we did have to pay blood for tickets as will anyone that is serious enough to follow their team this year, but bare these facts in mind;
I actually spoke to the Russian embassy and they directed me to their approved Visa people who told me that they were laying on additional staff and would be taking a relaxed view for the football supporters.
Tickets for the game are issued in pairs and both tickets have the same name on them, therefore it is ludicrous to expect that everyone will have a ticket and a visa in the same or their own name!
Let’s face it the security in Istanbul & Athens was appaling, I even saw really poor photocopies being used to get through some of the checkpoints!!
Is it a crime for someone to buy tickets for someone as a gift? NO
For Istanbul we had to fly to the other end of Turkey and then had a 12 hour drive to the game. Athens we flew in to Lesbos and then took an internal flight on the morning of the game!!
What I am trying to say to you is that if you want to go to the game you will get there whatever the cost, whatever the hardship, whatever you need to do, borrow the money, take out a loan, re-mortgage, because GUY’s it REALLY IS worth it.
My advice is, be sensible, travel responsibly, dress respectfully, treat locals with respect and you won’t have a problem anywhere in the world.
I could bore you silly about both of my trips, but I’m sure you’re bored reading this already..
Get your act’s together, get your tickets, get your flights and JUST DO IT!
