"Our sites used to reach out, grab the user,"....
Well that doesnt sound very good...everything you do, in whatever medium should 'reach out and grab the user'...that's the point..
It has nothing to do with whether the site is 'in flash', or drawn in piss on old man's benefit check, it needs to 'reach out and grab the user'.
Why they think that good typographical choices, a grid structure, page layout, information heirarchy, color scheme, contrast, repetition and balance do not 'reach out and grab the user', I don't know - and why this is apparantly antithetical to using the nearly endless possibilities of animation/video integration/data organisational abilities of flash eludes me.
If they wanted to say that their sites look less like a late 90's playstation game, and more like a brochure, then fine, but don't make excuses just because you can't work out how to include all of the above qualities into an interesting site.
That being said, I reallly like what they've done, but they don't have to knock flash, just cause 'they're all grown up now'. Good design principals apply whatever you use, or didn't we all agree on this 10 years ago ?
