I beg to differ. "Out of the box" has great meaning to clients (for web sites) who need to know the difference between standard build aspects and customizations. We use it all the time and it makes perfect sense.
If blackfrancis actually meant think OUTSIDE the box" than yeah, that phrase is tired.
