well, the 1st two weeks of running (I run 3 or 4 times a week, mostly 3 though) my left ankle was yelling at me (broke it twice skateboarding as a kid), my shins were sore and I thought about buying a segway, but once I got back in the rhythm, everything was good.
If you are new to running you should take it slow.
this site has some nice tips on stretchs and exercises to prevent injuries.
