    there is somewhat of a middle ground.. which I used in the past. I made a seperate folder (named the same as the title of the project) for each project and with the images and a description text in a simple txt file. Then I'd have my index page read in those folders dynamicly. If I wanted to add a project I used ftp to create a folder, upload the images and the description file and - done.
