"do you believe in the rapture flaggybottom? and if so, do you actively encourage it. " -skt

I think the notion of the rapture which is being ridiculed here is the pretribulational rapture theory that was posited and popularized by John Nelson Darby in the 19th century. I don't hold to this view and neither do most Biblically literate Christians. I believe it is based on a misunderstanding of a common metaphor in the Bible. In short, I believe that the passages of scripture that many use as prooftexts of the "rapture" are really describing either: a.) Christ's "inauguration" after having defeated sin and death thru his sacrifice and resurrection, or b.) the Second Coming which marks the end of all sin and decay on earth and the establishment of Christ's physical kingdom.
