  tomkat, I would't really say it was a political move in respect to the two countries.
  Lance did the same thing for Ulrich when he fell on a climb a couple years ago. It's a traditional act of respect, because the riders believe that "the best rider should win," not the "luckiest." If Lance was to be the more dominant rider on that climb, the other riders and other close contenders see it fit to give him that opportunity.

  A wonderful aspect of the Tour.
