I didn't think it was so horrible. It looks more like a first draft than a finished product, if you do a revision I would focus on refining individual elements rather than blowing the whole thing up. For instance, all those items in the background just seem distracting IMO, there is too much weight put on them compared to the content. The fonts you used don't really match - you're using Cooper for much of the site and then when I open a popup I see something completely different. Take a look at odopod - www.odopod.com They pull off a similar style pretty well.
