I like the last one better. I know that doesn't give you any help about the leaf - I too think it should have a place somewhere - but I don't think the upper versions work as well as the last.
I think the 'a' could use a little "footing" on the line. The very rounded bottom of it could use some balance, if you ask me, but that's just my opinion.
Nice work though - much more legible now.
