  Lets just say Cubase records audio and midi using a standard sequencer styled system which is simple pretty straight forward. I haven't used it for a while and if you have a mac get Logic, or logic express which does the same thing and maybe works better.
  Ableton is more for live music and possibly dance based material. not sure as I haven't used it properly.

  So, are you mac or pc? What sort of music do you intend to make? and if it's only for a mess about then why not use Reason?? For me that the easiest option and pretty innovative with the things it can do.
