harlquino has a great point. maya is easily customizable and make it a great choice in a film environment where specialized functionality can be added.
c4d on the other hand makes for a great generalist's tool. it covers most of the bases that other packages do but does it in a way that's more intuitive to a 3D newcomer.
i'd venture to say that in the motion graphics world, c4d is becoming more and more the prominent 3D sidekick to after effects.
