what are you gonna use 3D for? Character animation? motion graphics? game development?

Modo is a great modeling application complete with sculpting tools. I know it does animation now too, thougth i can't say how good that is. If you're modelling characters, I'd say go this route.

I personally use cinema 4D and approach it from a generalists perspective. I use it mostly for motion graphics with after effects (and seems to be the most integrated with c4d compared to the other 3d apps).

I'd say compared to the other 3D apps, the big thing c4d has going for it is the more intuitive interface, relatively lower learning curve and integration with after effects.

both have demos. try them out and see what suits you best.

    • Not really sure, haha. I think I'll start with extruding type, and then visualizing stills. No motion yet, but might get into that later. Just want to make the transition from thinking in 2D to 3D as simple as possible. Thanks.Laplander
