OS X has some built in hand-writing recognition, that you only get to see if you plug in a tablet, i presume it would use this. Maybe email modbook guys to find out. Anyway if you were using it at a desk you could put it on a stand of some sort and use keyboard for typing, while keeping modbook in decent position for drawing on.
