  Having been both and now a CD

  to quote Mr OneHundred:

  "I have always thought the Creative Director is the creative mind of the whole operation – shapes the creative direction of the company, but an Art Director is the one who understands the CD’s aesthetic and applies it to work on a job-by-job basis.
  Then the designer actually does all the work."

  I get more money than I ever did before, but I sleep a lot less.
