    Beatnicks Vols. 1 & 2

Excellent pair of EPs from the Rushhour-affiliated Up My Alley crew, bringing together some of the finest producers of post-Dilla instrumental beats. The main attraction here is Glaswegian don Rustie who follows up on his immense "Jagz The Smack EP" with brand new killer "Soapy Tits", an utterly squashed synth-heavy beat decimation that would make many of his compadres pale with envy. This guy just has a knack of creating next-level beat science out of a heaving mess of clanks, drops and carnage - and this is one of his finest tracks yet. Jackhigh, meanwhile, makes use of Dabrye's patented skewed synths for a killer session, while Last Order make cheesy use of the mother of all summer samples on "Summertime" and 1000 Names utilise some slowed-down and mashed up 50's advertising to excellent effect.
