"Being a US citizen is like being married to a wife that abuses you. You love the hell out of her but sometimes when she gets drunk and beats you silly, you want to defect."
That's all well and good, but it doesn't mean you should accept the abuse and the abuse she inflicts on others in your name.
Loving your country doesn't mean you have to ignore its faults or deny the possibility of improvement.
