*ahem* We invented you, don't forget YankeeDoodle - so 'cookies' is Yankish for 'biscuits'. Which, as Steven Fry tells us, comes from the French 'Bis Cuit', which means double cooked.
So, er.. I've lost my point here - but I think I meant to swear at the heathen Frenchies somehow.
