There's nothing especially unique about Ron Paul. He comes from the same old-school brand of conservatism as Pat Buchanan, Goldwater and others. All these guys basically believe in extremely limited government, having little to no taxes and social programs, and not getting involved in pointless wars, or, for that matter, giving other countries foreign aid or even being in the UN. At its extreme you have paranoid militia types who think we are being invaded by Mexicans and people with White Supremacist ties. On the other hand, a lot of people in 2007-8 were drawn to Paul's message because he seemed to have the most unequivocal opposition to the war and was the only one with the balls to say that 9-11 might have been partly our fault.

    • Those paranoid militia types you speak of is called jingoism, and by nature have no influence on the policy at hand.ismith
    • Plus, he might not be unique in the world but for the presidential race he certainly was.ismith
    • He was so unique, nobody would vote for him.AndyRoss
    • Nobody would vote for him because the media never gave him a chanceDUKIE0822
    • Instead they spat out 5 min radio and tv spots and made people misinterpret his messageDUKIE0822
