    I agree with Automatic...(mostly)

    - dick's den (My favorite bar..neighborhood dive, cheap, Jazz)

    - st. james tavern (cool bar, crappy neighborhood, good beer selection, excellent Jukebox, cool crowd)

    - anywere in the arena discrict and short north...
    (avoid, only if you are into Abercrombie and Fitch...I think you get the picture)

    - bernies ("Punk" shithole, used to be a landmark for punk/indie-- just pee on the floor and don't touch anything, you'll be alright...)

    - Larry's- cool, cool jukebox, occassionally hipper-than-thou, second or third fav. bar)

    M. Ward is at Littlebrothers if you are into Tom Waits-y indie stuff
