I was just in Columbus last weekend. Great place to party..etc. Yes, there are a ton of gay people there, but who cares? The Short North (area on High St. between OSU and downtown, near the Nationwide Arena) has a bunch of bars and art galleries with very nice ladies. The Press Grill is one I especially remember. Also, I hear that some place called Global is a nice night club.
The Newport may have some good shows if you check on them. That is in the heart of OSU campus on High Street. Kind of a ghetto area, and fileld with college kids, but fun nonetheless. All depends on what you're into!
People in Columbus are very friendly from my experience, so feel free to ask people when you get there.
