A: This is just speculation, but I believe the status was created by the natives (now the Others) way back in the early 1900’s. We can assume that their leader had only 4 toes, and the statue was made in his liking. However, once DHARMA came to the island, they destroyed the statue because they wanted to be the main inhabitants of the island. They blew it up and tried to bury the remains underwater. However, once the Others killed off DHARMA in the purge, they were able to find part of the remains (the four toed foot)."
