The larger the amount of the "reward" the more press coverage missing people get from the "media" in general, that is the unfortunate truth. As the story gains momentum and exposure in the media, public awareness generally increases as well.
I do not think a vast majority of people would only help and provide valuable information just for a reward, I really hope not!
