There is definitely something weird about the "Oceanic 6" factor that everyone keeps talking about. Hurley talked about how he shouldn't have followed Locke. Maybe the others were left behind on the island, or they died, etc. Either way, I guess the writers have to make it appear like everyone still holds grudges from the island (like when Hurley left Jack to follow Locke) in order for the audience to understand and connect with everything that is going on. Since the show is so complicated already, without that extra layer of having future scenes.
