  I think you missed the point entirely.

  I guess brands like Porsche, Ferrari and Rolls Royce have that history and reputation that borders on legend, in a way Marlboro attempt to tap into the same kind of thing with the 'Marlboro country' image, very much buying into the bigger picture and heritage association. Other brands try to do this by way of endorsement, Nike with the Jordan brand for instance, Tag Heuer with Steve McQueen/Le Mans etc
